Show this Friday, a breathing technique for strong vocal tone, creating realistic MIDI drums

Heya folks,

Come see me perform at the Fox Den this Friday

This Fri, Jun 30, I'm playing a special Pride edition of Friday at the Fox Den in South Pasadena, CA. I'll be sharing the stage with Kat Hamilton, Abby Posner, Chris Siders, and Ryan Cassata. Doors are at 7pm, and music starts at 8pm. I've got a quiver full of new, unreleased songs that I'm very excited to perform for you. If you haven't yet, RSVP now before capacity is filled.

A breathing technique for strong vocal tone

This weekend was vocals day with one of my artists, Colin Parker. One breathing technique that gave us the perfect take was having Colin briefly hold his breath after inhaling, before singing. This technique helps vocalists build up what we call subglottic pressure. Proper subglottic pressure results in easy singing, strong tone, and steady pitch. You can read more of my notes on breath management here. We also tracked with the new Ohma mic I've been demoing, and the results were wonderful!

Creating realistic MIDI drums

As much as I prefer real, acoustic drums, sometimes budgets don't allow, or sometimes programmed drums are stylistically appropriate, as in some pop styles. I'm working on a couple client projects where this is the case, and I've recently spent some study hours brushing up on my drum programming skills. If you're programming MIDI drums for either a demo or a final track, check out my notes on the subject here.

Peace,
Arend
