Singers, don't breathe too deep, Hotel Cafe show tonight, better transitions between song sections

Heya folks,

Breath support is not necessarily about how deeply you breathe

It's not about how much breath you take in, it's about what you do with it. In fact, overcrowding your lungs with air will result in a quicker rate of expiration, leaving you feeling either out of breath or tense, trying not to lose your breath. This is because air flows from a region of higher pressure to a region of lower pressure. The good news is this principle works in reverse too. I tell my voice students to let physics do the breathing for them. Simply exhale, keep your airway open, and new air will naturally fill your lungs. Then sing!

I'm playing the Hotel Cafe tonight

I was just recently added to a show put on by Open Folk at the Hotel Cafe. If you're free tonight at 9:30pm, come hang! Tickets are $12, and you can get them here.

How to facilitate transitions in your productions

I've been learning a lot from the electronic music community about transition effects when it comes to music productions. As a folkie, I've mainly relied upon the songwriting and the performance to heighten the scene, which works in that genre most of the time. But several client projects I'm working on right now have strong dance and electronic influences. Whatever genre you're working in, I've compiled a list of tips that can offer guidance for any production that needs help transitioning between sections of the song.

Peace,
Arend
