I always had such a hard time getting electric organs like B3s to sit right in a mix. Then I recently learned spring reverbs were first designed for use in electric organs. Armed with this knowledge, I put a spring reverb plug-in directly on the organ track, and wow. Problem solved.
I had tried other reverbs, but spring reverb in particular does the trick for me.
Try this with synths and other sustained, pad-like instruments that you don’t want to be the center of attention. It can be a useful way to give them a “believable” sense of space, since spring reverb units are relatively small and inexpensive.
